Encouragement for Writers: Your Stories Matter

Publishing journeys rarely happen overnight. 

Many authors spend years learning, growing, editing, rewriting, and trying again (and again!) before readers ever see their books. In a world that often celebrates overnight success, it can be easy to feel discouraged when progress feels really slow or invisible.

I want to say, don't be discouraged! Every writer's journey is different. Every bit of writing progress still counts. Writing takes courage, and it is genuinely brave to put words on a page and allow someone else to read them. So, so, so brave. 

So if you are writing right now, whether you are on your first draft or your fiftieth, I simply wanted to encourage you today to keep going. Growth as a writer takes time, and many authors spend years improving their craft before readers ever discover their work.

Stories often matter more than we realise. A story can make someone really laugh after a hard day, encourage a struggling reader, inspire a teenager, or simply give someone a few hours of fun and escape. Stories can stay with people. I still remember the joyful feeling of reading stories I loved as a child. I also credit the Emily series by L. M. Montgomery as one of the reasons I work in publishing today. I first read those books when I was about fifteen years old.

Write the story only you can write. Celebrate the milestones. Remember that every writer has a different journey. Comparison can so easily become the thief of joy.
