Why I Love Bookmarks (And Why Grace Bell Publishing Is Selling Them)

I have always loved books. Like, properly loved books. Even my first job as a teenager was in a library. Books are the best! So it makes perfect sense that I also love bookmarks. There is something so fun about having a cute, bookish bookmark to pair with a book. It makes reading feel extra special.

When I started Grace Bell Publishing, I knew I wanted to offer more than just stories. I wanted to also create cute, bookish things that feel fun, fresh, thoughtful, and full of joy. Bookmarks felt like the perfect place to start. 

Publishing books will always be the heart of Grace Bell Publishing, with bookmarks simply a fun and creative side of the business.

I’ve always loved to draw. Years ago, before kids, I used to paint with oils. I loved it, but oil painting and small children do not mix very well. The mess, the setup, the cleanup… SO MUCH MESS! So I stopped for a long time.

Then I discovered Procreate, a digital drawing program on the iPad. Honestly, I fell in love with drawing all over again. It’s creative, flexible, and completely mess free. I can draw whenever inspiration strikes without worrying about paints, brushes, or drying time. Designing bookmarks has become this lovely meeting point between two things I truly enjoy: being creative and leaning into bookish fun.

These days, I mostly read on my Kobo. It’s practical, especially at night or when I’m juggling a million things. But every now and then, I pick up a physical book, and when I do, I really want a fun bookmark waiting for me. Something pretty and something that makes me smile when I open the pages again.

That’s where these bookmarks come in.

They’re designed to feel joyful. Not too serious. Just sweet, bookish, and lovely to use. The kind of thing you might tuck into your favourite novel, pop inside a journal, or gift to a fellow book lover just because. I also designed two bookmarks specifically for book clubs.
