Manuscript Wish List Part 4: Middle Grade Fiction
Share
Personally, I love MG fiction.
Before you read this Part 4 of the MSWL blog series, please make sure to read Part 1.
Above all, I am looking for middle grade fiction that is fun, wholesome, and hope-filled. I want stories with characters readers can truly connect with and care about. I am looking for middle grade fiction across a range of genres, including:
- Adventure
- Action
- Comedy
- Contemporary
- Fantasy (with a fresh or unique angle and no magic)
- Historical fiction
- Sports
- Fact-based fiction
I am looking for stories that:
- Have a strong, clear hook from the outset
- Are wholesome, fun, and hope-filled
- Offer a fresh and original concept or plot
- Include humour where appropriate
- low to moderate stakes
- Are commercial, with broad appeal to readers
- Contain engaging, high-quality writing
- have positive values and morals
- Feel immersive, with details that bring the world to life
I am flexible on word count depending on concept and age range. I would love to see ensemble cast series where a group of characters share the spotlight and grow together across multiple books in a series. Character development is very important to me, especially stories where children learn, change, and face meaningful personal growth over time.
Please make sure you read Part 1 of this blog series, too.
